Decentralization Of Seed Quality Assurance- CSP in Nigeria

In an effort to enhance the Nigerian seed sector's performance, Goldagric, in collaboration with the National Agricultural Seeds Council (NASC), has embarked on a project aimed at decentralizing seed quality assurance services in the country.

• Impact and Outcomes

  Improved access to seed quality assurance services: The project has increased access to seed quality assurance services for a wider range of crops and seed entrepreneurs, leading to enhanced seed quality and crop yields.
  Stronger institutional capacity: The capacity of decentralized seed quality assurance systems has been strengthened, enabling these systems to provide more effective and efficient services to seed sector stakeholders.
  Greater stakeholder collaboration: The project has fostered stronger collaboration among various seed sector stakeholders, creating a more conducive environment for seed sector development and growth.

• Key Project Activities

  Development of seed quality assurance infrastructure: The project is supporting the establishment of seed testing laboratories, storage facilities, and other infrastructure needed for effective seed quality assurance services.
  Collaboration with other seed sector stakeholders: Goldagric is collaborating with other seed sector stakeholders, such as research institutes, non-governmental organizations, and private seed companies, to enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of decentralized seed quality assurance systems.
  Capacity building and training: Goldagric and NASC are working together to train seed sector stakeholders, including seed inspectors, seed producers, and extension agents, on various aspects of seed quality assurance and crop management.
